TRAGEDY ON THE GRAND PARKWAY: TWO LIVES LOST IN RAINY COLLISION

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, TX — A somber Saturday afternoon turned into a scene of heartbreak on April 4, 2026, as a high-impact crash claimed the lives of two drivers on SH 99. The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) is currently investigating the role that wet road conditions played in this senseless loss.

The Incident Details

At approximately 2:30 PM, emergency responders were called to a stretch of the Grand Parkway near Community Drive following reports of a severe two-vehicle wreck.

  • The Chain of Events: A southbound 2008 Chrysler Pacifica reportedly lost control—potentially due to hydroplaning on standing water—and crossed the median into the northbound lanes.

  • The Collision: The Pacifica struck a 2008 GMC Sierra pickup truck head-on. The impact was so severe that the Pacifica reportedly rolled and caught fire.

  • The Aftermath: Despite the rapid arrival of Montgomery County and Liberty County emergency crews, the outcome was tragic.

Remembering the Victims

While formal tributes are being prepared by their respective families, authorities have released the identities of those involved to honor their memory:

  1. A 35-year-old man from New Caney: The driver of the GMC Sierra, he was a member of the local community who was tragically pronounced dead at the scene.

  2. A 61-year-old woman from Corrigan: The driver of the Chrysler Pacifica, she was rushed to Kingwood Hospital in critical condition but sadly succumbed to her injuries shortly after arrival.

“Our thoughts are with the families in New Caney and Corrigan. To lose a loved one so suddenly is a burden no one should have to bear, and we ask the community to keep them in their prayers.” — Local Authorities Statement

Investigation & Safety Concerns

The crash occurred during a wave of severe storms that moved through the Houston area. DPS Sgt. Mike Aftosmes noted that “wet road conditions may have been a factor” in the vehicle losing control.

This tragedy marks a string of serious incidents on SH 99 in recent weeks, prompting renewed discussions among local leaders regarding highway safety during heavy Texas rainfall. Investigators are currently analyzing vehicle data and weather reports to finalize the cause of the accident.

A Community United in Grief

The “shining light” of these two individuals will be deeply missed by their coworkers, neighbors, and kin. As the families prepare for final arrangements, the community is encouraged to drive with extra caution during spring storms to ensure every neighbor makes it home safely.
