The Aiken community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of 64-year-old Charles Cooper, whose life was tragically cut short following a fatal crash on Columbia Highway North in Aiken County.
According to the Aiken County Coroner’s Office, the accident occurred on Tuesday, May 19, at approximately 2:19 P.M. near Beaverdam Road. Authorities reported that Charles Cooper was driving his 1998 Dodge Ram truck southbound on Columbia Highway North when he suffered a witnessed medical emergency while behind the wheel.
Investigators stated that the truck traveled off the right side of the roadway, struck a utility pole, and overturned. Emergency responders arrived quickly at the scene, but sadly, Charles Cooper was pronounced deceased at 2:50 P.M.
Officials also confirmed that one of the two passengers inside the vehicle was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The Aiken County Coroner’s Office and the South Carolina Highway Patrol continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident, while the official cause of death remains under review.
