HORROR IN HOLLYWOOD: PARENTS CHARGED IN “DEVISED” DEATH OF NEWBORN

“A Cry Silenced by Music: 3-Week-Old Infant Starved of Oxygen in Bathtub While Parents Staged Cover-Up”

HOLLYWOOD, FL — Following an eight-month investigation into the “unexplained” death of a newborn, the Hollywood Police Department and the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force have arrested Crystal Garcia, 21, and Anfernee Watts, 25. On April 8, 2026, both were charged with Aggravated Manslaughter of a Child and several felony counts of evidence tampering.

The Incident: August 1, 2025

The tragedy unfolded at a home on Thomas Street, where police were summoned to find a lifeless 21-day-old infant.

  • The Restraint: According to the arrest warrant, Garcia intentionally restrained the baby by “tightly wrapping him in a blanket” and forcing a pacifier into his mouth.

  • The Isolation: She then strapped the infant into a car seat and placed the seat inside a bathtub. To ensure the infant’s distress went unheard, she reportedly shut the door and played loud music to drown out his cries.

  • The Neglect: Authorities allege Garcia failed to check on the infant for over seven hours, willfully ignoring his physiological distress. Hollywood Fire Rescue pronounced the baby dead at 1:50 PM.

The Staged Scene and “Fabricated” Alibi

Investigators quickly grew suspicious of the scene and the parents’ conflicting accounts.

  • The Discovery: Officers noted the infant had “cracked lips with dried blood” and was already showing signs of decomposition, suggesting he had been dead much longer than reported.

  • The Fake Interview: Watts originally told detectives he was away at a job interview when the baby died. However, the alleged employer told police that no such interview ever took place.

  • The Cover-Up: Watts later admitted to “placing the deceased baby back into the playpen” to make it appear as if the child had died peacefully in his sleep.

  • Evidence Tampering: Surveillance footage captured Garcia disposing of garbage bags shortly before the 911 call. Inside the home, detectives smelled a strong odor of bleach and found blood-spotted changing pads and discarded baby items.

“The level of intentionality in silencing this child’s cries is truly heinous. This wasn’t an accident; it was a devised attempt to avoid the responsibilities of parenthood, followed by a cold-hearted effort to hide the truth.” — Hollywood Police Department Official

The Confession and Arrest

The case took a turn when Garcia reportedly broke down in a series of voicemails sent to investigators between August 2025 and April 2026.

  • The Admission: In recorded messages, Garcia allegedly admitted she had lied out of “fear of being arrested” and eventually stated she had “smothered” the baby.

  • The Ruling: The Broward Medical Examiner’s Office officially ruled the death a homicide caused by suffocation.

Current Legal Status

As of April 13, 2026, both Garcia and Watts are being held without bond in Broward County. They face five major felony charges, including:

  • Aggravated Manslaughter of a Child

  • Child Neglect with Great Bodily Harm

  • Tampering with Physical Evidence

  • Obstruction of a Criminal Investigation

  • Disturbing a Dead Body

A Community Shaken

Neighbors on Thomas Street have described the news as “demonic,” expressing disbelief that such “senseless” cruelty could occur in their quiet neighborhood. A small memorial of plush toys and candles has been placed near the home to honor the “shining light” of a life that was given only three short weeks.

In Loving Memory: We stand with the community in mourning a child who never had the chance to grow. May the investigation bring full justice and may this “unexplained” horror lead to stricter protections for vulnerable infants.
