Whitmer mourn the unexpected loss of a devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather and great-grandfather, respected veteran, cherished brother, and loyal friend. Ronald passed away on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, at the age of 76, alongside his brother, Chris \u201cStanley\u201d Whitmer, and his nephew, Chris \u201cL.C.\u201d Whitmer II \u2014 a heartbreaking tragedy that has deeply shaken the Whitmer family and all who held them close.<\/p>\n<p>Though words cannot fully capture the pain of this tremendous loss, they also cannot fully express the remarkable life Ronald lived. His life was one built on love, laughter, service, hard work, family traditions, and countless cherished memories that will continue to live on in the hearts of everyone fortunate enough to know him.<\/p>\n<h2>A Life of Love and Dedication<\/h2>\n<p>Born on January 9, 1950, in Midland, Michigan, Ronald was the son of Robert Whitmer and Juanita Whitehouse. From a young age, he developed the values that would define him throughout his life \u2014 loyalty, humor, resilience, and a deep appreciation for family and friendship.<\/p>\n<p>Ronald proudly served his country as a member of the United States Navy. His military service reflected the strength, discipline, and commitment that remained part of his character throughout his life. Family members often spoke with pride about his years of service and the sacrifices he made while serving his nation.<\/p>\n<p>After completing his military service, Ronald built a successful career at Dow Chemical, where he worked until retiring more than twenty years ago. He was respected as a hardworking and dependable man who took pride in providing for his family and dedicating himself fully to his responsibilities.<\/p>\n<p>Yet despite his accomplishments, Ronald\u2019s greatest source of pride was always his family.<\/p>\n<h2>A Loving Husband and Family Man<\/h2>\n<p>Ronald shared an extraordinary love story with his beloved wife, Donna Berthume. Together, they built 41 beautiful years of marriage filled with love, partnership, laughter, and countless cherished memories. Through every chapter of life, they stood side by side, creating a home filled with warmth, humor, and unwavering devotion.<\/p>\n<p>To Ronald, family was everything.<\/p>\n<p>He was a proud and loving father to Deana Whitmer, Joe (Jill) Whitmer, Josh (Sarah) Whitmer, Jackie (Jeremy) Dull, and Jake (Jackie) Whitmer. His children remember him not only as a father but also as a guide, mentor, teacher, and source of constant support. Whether offering advice, helping with projects, or simply being present when needed, Ron always made sure his family knew they could count on him.<\/p>\n<p>He also deeply cherished his role as a grandfather and great-grandfather. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought immeasurable joy into his life, and he treasured every moment spent with them \u2014 from sharing stories and jokes to creating traditions and memories that will now be carried forward for generations.<\/p>\n<h2>A True Outdoorsman<\/h2>\n<p>Ronald found great joy in the outdoors and embraced every opportunity to spend time hunting and fishing with family and friends. One of his favorite traditions was attending Maple Valley deer camp each fall, where stories, laughter, and lifelong bonds were strengthened year after year.<\/p>\n<p>He also looked forward to the annual spring fishing trip to Tahquamenon with his good buddies and family \u2014 a tradition that reflected his deep love for both nature and togetherness. Those trips became more than just outings; they became treasured moments of friendship, storytelling, and family connection that will forever be remembered by those who shared them with him.<\/p>\n<p>Ronald appreciated life\u2019s simple pleasures. He loved relaxing on the back porch while watching over his field, enjoying the quiet beauty of the outdoors, and unwinding with his favorite television shows. He enjoyed tinkering around the house with his many \u201ctreasures,\u201d always finding projects to work on or advice to offer \u2014 whether anyone asked for it or not.<\/p>\n<h2>A Sense of Humor That Brightened Lives<\/h2>\n<p>Anyone who knew Ron knew one thing for certain: he loved to make people laugh.<\/p>\n<p>His witty sense of humor and constant jokes brought joy to every room he entered. He had a natural ability to lighten difficult moments and make everyday life more enjoyable for the people around him. His humor became one of the many things his family and friends loved most about him.<\/p>\n<p>Ronald\u2019s personality was unforgettable \u2014 genuine, funny, caring, and full of life. He believed in enjoying time with the people he loved and never missed an opportunity to share laughter, stories, and good company.<\/p>\n<h2>A Legacy of Love and Memories<\/h2>\n<p>Ronald is survived by his beloved wife, Donna; his children, Deana Whitmer, Joe (Jill) Whitmer, Josh (Sarah) Whitmer, Jackie (Jeremy) Dull, and Jake (Jackie) Whitmer; his cherished grandchildren, LJ Schulz, Gage Schulz, Chance Schulz, Austin (Brenna) Dings, Zach Whitmer, Jordan Robinson, Jillian Whitmer, and Lainey Whitmer; and his great-grandchildren, Ava Schulz, Rhyan Jehnsen, and Jameson French.<\/p>\n<p>He also leaves behind his brother, Dennis (Alice) Whitmer; his sister, Joanne (Kendall) Rees; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and lifelong friends who will forever carry his memory in their hearts.<\/p>\n<p>The sudden and tragic loss of Ronald, alongside his brother and nephew, has created unimaginable grief for the Whitmer family. Yet even amid the sorrow, those who loved him continue finding comfort in the memories he leaves behind \u2014 the laughter, the traditions, the advice, the fishing trips, the family gatherings, and the unwavering love he shared throughout his life.<\/p>\n<h2>Forever Loved, Forever Remembered<\/h2>\n<p>Though Ronald G. Whitmer\u2019s earthly journey has ended, his spirit remains alive in the hearts of all who knew him.
