In Loving Memory of Chris “Stanley” Whitmer I

With profound sadness and heartfelt sorrow, family, friends, and loved ones mourn the unexpected passing of Chris “Stanley” Whitmer I, who departed this life on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, at the age of 71. Stanley’s passing, alongside his beloved son Chris “L.C.” Whitmer II and his brother Ronald G. Whitmer, has left an unimaginable void in the hearts of all who knew and loved them.

A devoted father, proud grandfather and great-grandfather, loyal brother, respected veteran, and cherished friend, Stanley lived a life defined by hard work, love for family, service to his country, and appreciation for the simple joys life offered. His presence brought strength, wisdom, humor, and warmth to those around him, and his memory will forever remain deeply treasured.

A Life of Service and Dedication

Born on June 18, 1954, in Midland, Michigan, Stanley was the son of Robert Whitmer and Juanita Whitehouse. From an early age, he carried values that would shape the man he became — loyalty, resilience, hard work, and devotion to family.

Stanley proudly served his country as a member of the United States Navy. His military service reflected his sense of duty, discipline, and commitment to something greater than himself. Those years remained a source of pride throughout his life, and his family deeply admired the sacrifices he made while serving his country.

After completing his service, Stanley dedicated many years of his life working for Dow Chemical until his retirement. He was known as a hardworking and dependable man who believed in providing for his family and taking pride in honest work. Coworkers and friends respected him for his dedication, reliability, and straightforward nature.

A True Outdoorsman

Stanley found peace and joy in the outdoors. Hunting, fishing, and camping were not simply hobbies to him — they were passions that connected him with nature, family, and lifelong friendships. Some of his happiest moments were spent outdoors, whether casting a fishing line into calm waters, sitting around a campfire sharing stories, or heading into the woods with family and friends.

Those who spent time outdoors with Stanley remember the laughter, the stories, and the lessons shared along the way. He appreciated life’s quieter moments and found beauty in experiences that brought people together.

Stanley also loved to cook, and many family members fondly remember meals shared around the table, where conversation, laughter, and togetherness mattered just as much as the food itself. His home and presence created comfort — a place where family gathered and memories were made.

A Family Man Above All Else

More than anything in the world, Stanley loved his family.

He treasured every moment spent with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Family was the center of his life, and he took immense pride in watching generations of loved ones grow around him. Whether offering advice, sharing stories, celebrating milestones, or simply spending time together, Stanley’s greatest happiness came from being surrounded by those he loved most.

He leaves behind his children, Dennis (Melissa) Whitmer and Adam (Melissa Olney) Whitmer; daughter-in-law, Tasia Whitmer; grandchildren Justin, Coey (Allie), Brent, and Cole; and great-grandchildren Claire, Clay, and Cami, all of whom brought tremendous pride and joy into his life.

Stanley also shared deep bonds with his siblings and extended family. He is survived by his brother Dennis (Alice) Whitmer, his sister Joanne (Kendall) Rees, and many nieces and nephews who will forever cherish the memories they created with him over the years.

Though preceded in death by his parents, Robert Whitmer and Juanita (Joe) Simon, Stanley carried their values and love with him throughout his life, passing them on through the generations that followed.

Remembering the Man Behind the Memories

To know Stanley was to know someone who valued authenticity, loyalty, and family above all else. He was the kind of man who showed love through actions — through time spent together, stories told, lessons shared, and unwavering support for those he cared about.

His laughter, wisdom, and steady presence brought comfort to the people around him. Whether as a father, grandfather, brother, friend, or mentor, Stanley had a lasting impact on countless lives.

The tragic and sudden nature of his passing makes the loss even more painful for his loved ones. Yet amid the grief, there is also gratitude — gratitude for the years shared with him, the memories created, and the love he gave so freely.

Forever Loved and Never Forgotten

Though Stanley’s earthly journey has come to an end, the legacy he leaves behind will continue to live on through the family he loved so deeply. Every hunting trip remembered, every family meal shared, every laugh echoed through stories, and every lesson passed down will serve as a reminder of the remarkable man he was.

His life was one of service, hard work, love, and devotion — a life that mattered deeply to everyone fortunate enough to know him.

To his family and friends, may you find strength in one another and comfort in the countless memories Stanley leaves behind. Though the pain of this loss is immense, his spirit will forever remain present in the hearts of those who loved him.

Rest peacefully, Chris “Stanley” Whitmer I.
Your love, wisdom, and legacy will never fade, and you will forever be remembered with love and honor.
