The “Atlantic Odyssey” was meant to be a journey of wonder, bird watching, and wildlife discovery in the remote reaches of the South Atlantic. Instead, it became a journey of profound loss. We remember the Dutch couple who shared a lifetime of adventure, only to be separated by a brief illness and reunited in tragedy. We also honor the German traveler whose quest for the beauty of the polar regions ended far from home.
To their families, and to the passengers still on board facing uncertainty, the world offers its deepest sympathies. These were people with lives, families, and dreams of the horizon—now silenced by a microscopic enemy. May they rest in peace among the waves they so loved to explore.
