Mariah was a cherished daughter, a loyal friend, and a recent or soon-to-be graduate whose kindness and vibrant spirit left a lasting mark on the halls of Coquille High School and the local community.

The Tragic Details

According to the Oregon State Police, the accident occurred at approximately 2:48 p.m. near milepost 260. The preliminary investigation revealed a heartbreaking sequence of events:

  • The Incident: A white Mercedes E400, operated by a 78-year-old male from Bandon, was traveling northbound in the southbound lane.

  • The Collision: After nearly striking a Bandon Police Department patrol vehicle and another car, the Mercedes veered into the southbound lane and collided head-on with Mariah’s blue Mazda3.

  • The Outcome: Despite the immediate response of emergency crews, Mariah was tragically pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the Mercedes was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.

The highway remained closed for nearly three hours as the Coos County Sheriff’s Office, Bandon Fire Department, and ODOT assisted state troopers in the investigation.
